World Trade Center Documents Go to Auction
Rare Set of 273 Architectural Documents Go to the Auction Block This Sunday, August 16th at DuMouchelle Art Galleries in Detroit
(firmenpresse) - DETROIT, MI -- (Marketwired) -- 08/13/15 -- It was the first of its kind -- an idea born at the 1939 World''s Fair and later nurtured by David Rockefeller -- a development intended to stimulate urban renewal and revitalization in lower Manhattan. The World Trade Center quickly became one of New York City''s most recognizable landmarks. Designed by Minoru Yamasaki & Associates of Troy, Michigan -- this revolutionary architectural edifice came to symbolize economic power and commerce and then years later, one of America''s darkest moments with its ultimate destruction by terrorists in 2001.
This weekend is the rare opportunity to own a piece of history as the original World Trade Center blueprints from Yamasaki''s firm go on the auction block at DuMouchelle Art Galleries in Detroit.
This rare set of 273 documents includes floor plans, interior elevations and detail sheets of the Twin Towers complex. Slated for disposal, they were rescued by a former associate of the firm. The documents have been authenticated and are known to be the only remaining architectural plans, as the complete set in the World Trade Center archives were destroyed. In addition to The World Trade Center, Yamasaki designed countless other buildings -- including Seattle''s IBM Office Building and the Los Angeles Century Plaza Hotel.
The collection remains on view at DuMouchelle Art Galleries in Detroit until it goes to the auction block this Sunday, August 16th. The auction begins at 12 Noon EDT. For more information, refer to , call (313) 963-6255 or e-mail .
