Investments highlight the College's 50th anniversary in 2015

(firmenpresse) - SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/21/15 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, announced today that the Government of Canada has invested close to $11 million to date for improvements and repairs to the Canadian Coast Guard College.

The Government of Canada is investing $8.6 million to replace the College''s roof, addition to $2.3 million already devoted to upgrading the emergency electrical system. These investments will further reduce the College''s annual energy consumption and ensure that it continues to provide the highest international standards of training in marine safety and environmental response.

Since 2013, significant lighting upgrades have reduced the College''s annual energy consumption by 45,000 watts, provided brighter lighting and improved safety and security on campus. The installation of a solar wall on the campus in February is also expected to save 4,000 - 6,000 litres of oil fuel annually.

Proudly celebrating its 50th year anniversary in 2015, the Canadian Coast Guard College offers unique learning opportunities for new recruits, Officer Cadets and other Canadian Public Service employees involved in marine safety and environmental protection. The combination of a state of the art training facility, a committed and professional staff, along with a beautiful setting creates an ideal marine training environment.
