Shares Proposed Demonstration Projects and Dedicates Resources

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 06/25/15 -- Today National Grid (LSE: NG) (NYSE: NGG) announced its continued commitment to being at New York State''s media availability session on the proposed demonstration projects. To support REV and other efforts taking place around its footprint, National Grid announced the creation of its New Energy Solutions team at today''s event. This team will have the sole purpose of being focused on innovations and technologies that drive cleaner energy, improved efficiency, affordability and choice for the customer.

"Today''s announcement demonstrates an important change in the ways we work at National Grid in the US," said Jim Madej, senior vice president, chief customer officer. "We are dedicating the right people and the right resources to get the job done for our customers and our company."

National Grid has already made great strides in building its strategy, but the REV filing in New York on July 1 for the proposed demonstration projects, and the GridMod filing in Massachusetts on August 5, both represent great strides forward. These are steps that will ultimately give customers the tools they need to make better informed decisions regarding how they use energy, all while creating better affordability for them.

The New Energy Solutions team supports that effort, ensuring that National Grid has the right local resources to answer its customers'' needs, and has the right insights into local requirements and processes. At the same time, the team will make sure that the proper structure is in place to guarantee that the best ideas and practices are being leveraged. From Buffalo to Boston, National Grid has already invested in a number of efforts to make innovative, 21st century energy networks a reality. A few of those are:

The proposed Clarkson University''s micro grid project in Upstate New York

The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus

Brooklyn''s biogas facility at Newtown Creek Waste Water Treatment Facility

Worcester''s Smart Energy Solutions project in Massachusetts

Rhode Island''s Aquidneck Island reliability project

"It''s a very exciting time to be in the energy industry," said Ed White, vice president of new energy solutions. "With the help of customers, communities and regulators, we plan to advance America''s natural gas and electricity infrastructure beyond its 20th century limitations to create an energy network that is more customer-centric, resilient, agile, efficient and environmentally sound."

National Grid''s New Energy Solutions team will report to Senior Vice President, Chief Customer Officer, Jim Madej, and be led by Ed White. White has a wealth of experience over his 20 years at National Grid, most recently leading efforts to deliver award-winning energy efficiency programs across our territories: solar in Massachusetts, smart grid solutions in Worcester, and an electric vehicle charging infrastructure in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

National Grid (LSE: NG) (NYSE: NGG) is an electricity and natural gas delivery company that connects nearly 7 million customers to vital energy sources through its networks in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It is the largest distributor of natural gas in the Northeast. National Grid also operates the systems that deliver gas and electricity across Great Britain. Through its U.S. Connect21 strategy, National Grid is transforming its electricity and natural gas networks to support the 21st century digital economy with smarter, cleaner, and more resilient energy solutions. Connect21 is vital to our communities'' long-term economic and environmental health and aligns with regulatory initiatives in New York (REV: Reforming the Energy Vision) and Massachusetts (Grid Modernization).
