Government Announces Appointment to the Transportation Safety Board
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/22/15 -- Today, the Honorable Peter Van Loan, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, announced an appointment to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
Helene Gosselin, a veteran of the public service for over thirty years, has been appointed as a part-time member of the Transportation Safety Board.
"Ms. Gosselin will bring a valuable perspective to the Board from her experience in senior management positions responsible for regulatory affairs, including federally regulated transportation industries," Mr. Van Loan commented.
Ms. Gosselin''s four-year appointment is effective immediately.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is an independent agency, created in 1990 and consisting of up to five Board members, including a Chairperson. It reports to Parliament through the Government House Leader. Its mandate is to advance transportation safety through the investigation of occurrences in the marine, pipeline, rail and air modes of transportation.
The Board works to identify safety deficiencies and to make recommendations designed to eliminate or reduce those safety deficiencies.

Biographical Note
Ms. Helene Gosselin
Ms. Gosselin has over thirty years of experience in the federal public service, many of those years with senior positions in regulatory affairs.
Helene Gosselin began her career in various positions with the Department of Industry, Science and Technology, Treasury Board Secretariat and Industry Canada. She went on to hold progressively senior positions within Industry Canada, the Privy Council Office, and Canadian Heritage from 1995 to 2002. She then assumed the role of Deputy Secretary of Intergovernmental Policy at the Privy Council Office. She moved in 2003 to the Department of National Defence, serving as Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence and then Acting Deputy Minister of National Defence. In 2004, Ms. Gosselin was appointed as Associate Deputy Minister of Health. In 2006, she became Deputy Head of Service Canada and Associate Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development. She was appointed Deputy Minister of Labour in 2008, serving until her retirement in 2014. As Deputy Minister of Labour, Ms. Gosselin was responsible for the administration and enforcement of labour laws and regulations in federally regulated businesses and industries including federally regulated marine, rail, air and road transportation industries and pipelines.
Ms. Gosselin received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in Economics) degree from Bishop''s University. She also completed a Master of Public Administration with Carleton University.
