Upon graduating cum laude from Harvard University, earned his medical degree from Indiana University, during which time he acted as a delegate to the American Medical Association. He then completed an ophthalmology residency at the Duke University Eye Center, along with a fellowship at John Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah.
