RTDNA Supports the CBC''s Action on Evan Solomon
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/11/15 -- RTDNA Canada supports the statement issued on June 10, 2015 by Jennifer McGuire, editor-in-chief of CBC News, following the firing of CBC host Evan Solomon over conflict-of-interest allegations. Lamenting the state of journalism in Canada, McGuire said, "Its time for every single professional journalist and media organization to stop providing ammunition." All three of this country''s major networks have had their integrity called into question in the last year.
RTDNA President Ian Koenigsfest said the allegations against Solomon contravene Articles 5a (Integrity) and 6 (Conflict of Interest) of the association''s code.
"Canada''s news leaders re-affirmed their support of and commitment to RTDNA''s Code of Ethics last week at our national convention." Koenigsfest said, "we support the effort undertaken by news leaders to make journalistic integrity a hallmark of our industry."
"As an association, we are extremely proud of our Code of Ethics which has been put to the test repeatedly this year, the code has been described as the standard for Canadian excellence in electronic and digital journalism." Koenigsfest adds, "... our industry has been under extraordinary pressure on the very foundations that support journalistic freedom in our country and our members have not wavered."
At the convention held in Toronto, The RTDNA''s President''s Award was handed symbolically to network news leaders representing ''The Canadian Journalist''. RTDNA Canada will continue to work towards safeguarding electronic and digital journalism in Canada through the Code of Ethics.
