With 26 episodes set for season two, this 22nd century robot is ready for new out of this world adventures with his best friend Noby, who seems to get into trouble everywhere he goes. As the story goes, Doraemon was sent back to the past by Noby''s great-great grandson in order to prevent Noby from making mistakes that would draw his descendent into poverty. But preventing this is no easy task, because Noby is so unlucky, weak and lazy. Doraemon does, however, have a 4th Dimensional Secret Gadget Pocket with never-before-heard-of tools that help Noby in times of trouble.
Doraemon stands for what''s really important. The simple things: hanging out with friends in the neighborhood, going to school even though you really don''t want to, getting in trouble with mom and dad, and of course, having a super amazing best friend that will do anything for you. Since its launch in Japan in 1979, Doraemon has been regarded as a national favorite and a worldwide success, airing in 35 countries and regions with more than 2,000 episodes produced.
Based on the comics written by Fujiko F Fujio, this comedic and witty character has turned into a worldwide brand, with movies, merchandise, and became the first "anime cultural ambassador" by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Doraemon is a Japanese manga series created by Fujiko F. Fujio (the pen name of Hiroshi Fujimoto), which later became an anime series and an Asian franchise. The series is about an earless cat-shaped robot named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a schoolboy, Noby Nobi.
The series first appeared in December 1969, when it was published simultaneously in six different magazines. In total, 1,344 stories were created in the original series.
A majority of Doraemon episodes are comedies with lessons regarding values such as integrity, perseverance, courage, family and respect for elders. Several noteworthy environmental issues are often visited, including homeless animals, global warming, endangered species, deforestation, and pollution. Miscellaneous educational topics such as dinosaurs, the flat Earth theory, wormhole traveling, Gulliver''s Travels are often covered.
The English language version draws from the series that TV Asahi began airing in April of 2005.
Doraemon was awarded the Japan Cartoonists Association Award for excellence in 1973. Doraemon was awarded the first Shogakukan Manga Award for children''s manga in 1982, and the first Osamu Tezuka Culture Award in 1997. In March 2008, Japan''s Foreign Ministry appointed Doraemon as the nation''s first "anime ambassador." Doraemon''s success spans worldwide airing in 35 countries and regions, becoming a big hit in Spain, Italy, India, and more.
