McKenzie Lake Lawyers, LLP: Lipitor Class Action Commenced in Canada
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/28/15 -- McKenzie Lake Lawyers, LLP has filed a class action lawsuit against Pfizer Canada Inc. ("Pfizer"), the distributor of Lipitor in Canada.
Lipitor is approved in Canada, since 1997, for use in lowering cholesterol levels. Use of Lipitor has been linked to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes in women. Furthermore, it is alleged that Lipitor creates this serious increased risk while providing no proven efficacy for women.
The Lipitor Claim alleges that Pfizer knew or should have known of this serious risk and failed to warn the public. The lawsuit also claims Pfizer aggressively marketed and sold Lipitor, to patients and the medical community at large, through carefully planned, multifaceted marketing campaigns and strategies, offering misleading expectations with respect to both the utility and safety of Lipitor in women.
Matthew Baer, of McKenzie Lake Lawyers explains: "We believe that through this action, Pfizer will be required to explain to Canadian women what it knew about the risks and efficacy associated with using Lipitor and when it first became aware of those risks. We are concerned about whether Canadian women were adequately warned of the known risks and efficacy associated with using this product."
