The Workers Lab Announces Summer Institute to Support Ventures Focused on Building Power for U.S. Workers

(firmenpresse) - OAKLAND, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/27/15 -- , the nation''s first investment and innovation lab focused on disrupting the trillion-dollar low-wage economy, today announced a call for applications to the inaugural two-day Summer Institute. The Workers Lab Summer Institute is designed to help entrepreneurs and community organizers take big ideas and make them into viable business propositions that help improve conditions for low-wage workers. The intensive takes place from July 28-30, 2015 in Oakland, California.
According to the , 6 out of 10 occupations will be classified as low wage by 2020.
"At the Workers Lab, we do not believe that arriving at 2020 with 60% of jobs being classified as low wage is inevitable," said Dr. Carmen Rojas, founder and CEO of The Workers Lab. "We have an opportunity to lead our economy in a new direction through investing in organizing strategies, business models, and platforms that will lift wages and transform the lives of people who work across the U.S."
expands an ecosystem of support for people working to build power for U.S. workers. The Workers Lab team will provide coaching throughout the two-day intensive. Participants will have direct access to expert advisors in social entrepreneurship and low-wage worker initiatives.
Entrepreneurs, community organizers, technologists, economic justice organizations, and businesses in the early stages of creating scalable and self-sustaining solutions that improve conditions for low-wage U.S. workers. Considered submissions must have a revenue-generating strategy and be replicable across industries and/or geographies.
High-level coaching, peer-to-peer consultation for other project leads, and the opportunity to sharpen business plans in real time.
Oakland, California. Travel and lodging will be provided by The Workers Lab.
