But the outlook for project activity is somewhat mixed, because there is a global imbalance between supply and demand for refined products. The risks of operating in some overseas markets may make projects there unattractive, said Chris Paschall, Industrial Info''s global vice president of research for the refining industry, in a May 20 webcast. Paschall noted there were 660 refinery capital and maintenance projects under construction worldwide, with a total investment value (TIV) of $112 billion, and said that Industrial Info was tracking 1,646 active refinery projects worldwide, valued at $314 billion, that are in the planning or engineering stages.
