Well.ca Survey Shows 92% of Canadians Are Using Sunscreen Regularly and They''re Reaching for Green and Natural Options
Survey also shows there is still room for improvement
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/25/15 -- There is good news when it comes to our sun safety, Canadians have heeded the warnings and are being proactive. A recent national survey conducted by Canadian online retailer Well.ca reveals the majority of Canadians are adding sunscreen to their daily routine.
As we head into the warmer weather with more time spent outdoors, Canadians are choosing to lather up with Green and Natural sunscreen, with a minimum SPF 30. "The survey, which reached out to our customers across Canada, shows those born during Generation X and Generation Y make for the majority of sunscreen users," says Rebecca McKillican, CEO at Well.ca. "These are the people who have grown up knowing the dangers of over-exposure from harmful sun rays. In fact, Canadians are largely selecting Green and Natural sunscreen over more traditional brands. Over the past three months alone, Well.ca has seen a surge in sales of its Green and Natural sunscreen products. Sales of these products are up over 50% versus the same time period one year ago, and they now represent over 70% of total sunscreen sales."
But despite the good news, there is still room for improvement. The survey which also asked about sending sunscreen to school or camp revealed sun safety is not happening on a regular basis. Sunscreen is not being sent in backpacks nor is it being applied before heading out the door for the day. In addition, 38% of Canadians do not apply sunscreen after 3pm, even though the sun''s rays are still strong.
"We''ve come a long way in a short time," says McKillican. "Sun and skin safety have become a top priority both at home and while on vacation. We need to see this trend continue and to grow beyond the weekend peak hours of 10am to 2pm."
