(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/19/15 -- On December 3, 1997, eighteen-year-old Scott Hay arrived home to the farm to find his mother frantically searching for his father. He joined in the search and was soon shocked to discover that he was a suspect in his father''s disappearance. Only in the course of the interrogation does he learn of his father''s death. And he''s even more shocked to learn that his mother has confessed to her husband''s brutal murder.

Approximately eleven months later, Suzanne Hay pled guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to four years in prison. The lesser charges were granted because of the years of abuse she''d endured. Scott hadn''t known about all of this abuse. He loved his father, who was sometimes abusive to him as well but had prepared him exceptionally well for work and life. Scott knew he was loved-by both parents.

While in prison, Suzanne completed her high school education and began post-secondary studies. After serving a little over half of her sentence, she was released on probation. Dedicated to both of Scott''s parents, Bleeding Hearts illustrates just how far family violence can go, and it is a testament to the incredible strength and complexity of family. As Scott says, "I originally wrote this book to be passed down through the generations of my family so they would know what happened. As I wrote I kept thinking of how things might have been different if my mom had gotten help. I then decided to publish the book to bring awareness about family violence to my community."

Raised on an Alberta farm, author Scott Hay is a successful welder and inspector for the oil and gas industry. Scott has seen much of the world, including China and many countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. He enjoys speaking of his experiences abroad and promoting world travel. Bleeding Hearts is his first book. He lives in Calgary. More at

Bleeding Hearts will be launched in Falun, AB on May 30 and Calgary on June 6.
