Government of Canada supports cultural activities in communities for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games

The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today announced that Friends of the Pan Am Path is receiving funding of $100,000 through the Community Celebrations Fund to plan and carry out the Pan Am Path Art Relay Grand Finale on August 15.

This support from the Government of Canada will help Friends of the Pan Am Path offer an exceptional celebration to strengthen our national pride and raise awareness of vibrant cultural communities in the region. Over the course of the Games, community celebrations across the country will offer cultural experiences and performances to thousands of Canadians and visitors alike.

- The is a two-year initiative that is supporting cultural activities throughout Canada in connection with the Toronto 2015 Games.

- The Fund is part of the Government of Canada''s commitment of up to $500 million to the Games.

- The Toronto 2015 Games will be one of the largest multisport events ever hosted in Canada and will gather over 10,000 athletes, coaches and officials from across the Americas.

- Friends of the Pan Am Path is an independent community led effort responsible for art and community activities on the Pan Am Path in Toronto. From May 16 to August 15, the Pan Am Path will come alive with a city-wide relay of art installations and weekly events.

- The Pan Am Path Arts Relay Grand Finale on August 15 will coincide with the end of the Parapan Am Games. It will provide participants with the opportunity to experience and celebrate the diverse cultures of the Aboriginal communities who are hosting these Games.
