Burns & McDonnell Moves Up to Number 17 on Engineering News-Record Top 500 Design Firms'' Ranking

Burns & McDonnell has climbed to No. 17 on the widely-watched Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine ranking of Top 500 Design firms. Continued growth in a number of key market sectors allowed Burns & McDonnell to post engineering and architecture design revenue of $1.1 billion in 2014, up 6% over design revenue the previous year.
Burns & McDonnell now ranks as the third largest engineering design firm serving the electrical power industry, reflecting continued strong demand for electrical transmission and distribution system upgrades throughout North America and internationally.
Continued project development in overseas markets, including Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South America has enabled Burns & McDonnell to move up from 50 to 39 on the ENR ranking of top International design firms.
Among firms serving the Industrial Process and Petroleum industries, Burns & McDonnell moved up from 19 to 17, thanks to several large refinery projects that got underway in 2014 even with the decline in oil prices. "We''re watching trends closely but so far, we''ve seen very few refinery project postponements, which seems consistent for most firms serving the downstream sector," said Burns & McDonnell CEO Greg Graves.
In the Manufacturing sector, Burns & McDonnell moved up from 19 to 17, reflecting several industrial, aerospace and food and consumer products projects that ramped up in 2014.
