Agreement Between the Governments of Canada and Nunavut
More than $2.7 million to support French and Inuit languages

The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment; Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency; Minister for the Arctic Council and Member of Parliament for Nunavut, today announced the ratification of the 2014-2015 Canada-Nunavut General Agreement on the Promotion of French and Inuit Languages. She made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
This agreement aims to improve Nunavut''s ability to offer French services-especially in the health, early childhood and communications sectors. The agreement also aims to promote the revitalization, preservation, and reinforcement of the Inuit language through community projects.
This agreement was made possible through the Development of Official-Language Communities Program and the Aboriginal Peoples'' Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
