Government of Canada provides funding to Société acadienne Sainte-Croix
(firmenpresse) - POMQUET, NOVA SCOTIA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/01/15 -- Department of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Regional Minister for Nova Scotia, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced funding of $62,000 to support the annual programming of the Societe acadienne Sainte-Croix in Pomquet, Antigonish County. He made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
The Government of Canada is providing this financial support through the Community Life component of the Development of Official-Language Communities Program. The funding will help the Societe acadienne Sainte-Croix coordinate cultural, social and educational activities for Francophone and Acadian youth, adults and seniors in Pomquet. During the 2015-16 school year, the society will establish a before- and after-school program at Ecole acadienne de Pomquet. Another project will involve collaborating with seniors on a project to collect traditional and local stories. The group will also work with Acadian and Francophone adults to help improve their oral French language skills that were lost from lack of use.
