The honor came recently at the third annual (NYIOOC) held in New York City. The prestigious event draws a renowned judging panel of top expert tasters from nine countries sampling entries over a three-day period. NYIOOC was organized by the industry publication The Olive Oil Times and is sponsored by Fairway Market and the International Culinary Center.
There were 671 entries represented this year from 26 countries. Only 39% of the entries received any recognition. Additionally, the panel found 49% of entries to have a defect. "This competition reinforces that not all olive oil is created equal," First Fresh founder, Bill Sanders said. "This is what fuels my passion... if 49% of the oils are defective at a competition, how many are ending up in Americans'' kitchens providing none of the health and flavor benefits they were purchased for in the first place?"
Sanders First Fresh is certified California extra virgin and a blend from four olive varieties produced in the Upper Sacramento Valley in Corning, California by Lucero Olive Oil. First Fresh was also recognized as one of the "Best Olive Oils in the World" at the 2013 NYIOOC and is kosher certified by KOF-K.
