Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians to Develop Tribal Member Only Gun Range
(firmenpresse) - PLACERVILLE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/17/15 -- Consistent with its original plans, the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians (Tribe) has decided to develop a small gun range that will be open only to Tribal Members and their guests.
During the past year, the Tribe had planned to build a small gun range, but adjusted those plans to address a community need. Tribal Administrator Ernest Vargas explains, "We started hearing how much El Dorado County needs a new gun range and we were in the position to fulfill that need. We prepared preliminary plans to build a 29-lane outdoor gun range on approximately two acres of the Tribe''s trust land south of Highway 50 off Shingle Springs Drive."
While the Tribe is confident that safety and sound issues would have been mitigated, the greater goal is to be a good neighbor. Tribal Chairman Nicholas Fonseca says, "The Tribe very much values its relationship with our neighbors. We''re dedicated to doing what is right and best for the overall community. Because of the close proximity to the Tribe''s future developments, two schools, a church and the membership''s satisfaction with its original plans, at this time the Tribe feels no need to continue with the public outdoor range."
Fonseca went on to thank the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors for its support and trust "during our collaboration on this and future projects."
The Tribe opened a small test facility on its property that has met the needs of the Tribe''s original vision. The Tribe is committed to honoring agreements with the schools and church. Shooting hours will be limited. No shooting will be allowed during school or worship hours.
