Mr. Glenn M. Stannard Retires as Chairperson of the Military Police Complaints Commission
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 03/25/15 -- Mr. Glenn M. Stannard has announced his retirement as Chairperson of the Military Police Complaints Commission, effective March 28, 2015.
Mr. Stannard joined the Commission as a part-time Commission Member in September 2007. He was named Interim Chairperson in December 2009 and appointed Chairperson in June 2010.
"It has been over five years since I became Chairperson," says Mr. Stannard. "In early 2011, Sheila and Shaun Fynes filed their complaint about the military police investigations into their son''s death. I stayed on to complete my work on the public interest hearing into this complaint. Two weeks ago, the Commission issued its Final Report and my work is now complete."
Mr. Stannard has rendered decisions on numerous conduct and interference complaint files. In addition to his work on the Fynes file, he co-presided over the Afghan Detainees Public Interest Hearing, another high profile case.

Glenn M. Stannard was born, raised and educated in Windsor, Ontario. He served with the Windsor Police Service for 37 years. During this time, he was promoted through the ranks. He was appointed Chief of Police in 1999, a position he held until his retirement eight years later.
Mr. Stannard is a Director of the Canadian Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement. He is also a Past President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and is a lifetime member of the OACP and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. In 2003, he was invested as an Officer into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by Her Excellency the Governor General of Canada. He received the Queen''s Jubilee Award in 2005 and the Queen''s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013.
The Military Police Complaints Commission will issue an announcement about Mr. Stannard''s interim replacement later this week.
