Additionally, some temporary bruising and swelling is common, and any potential discomfort can often be managed with pain medication. Most patients can expect to return to their normal routines within a few days, he adds, though heavy lifting and strenuous activity should be avoided for a minimum of four weeks.
Ultimately, Dr. Mills stresses that upgrading one''s implants is something every breast augmentation patient should consider eventually, as the average life-expectancy for implants is approximately 10 to 15 years before the risk of rupture increases dramatically. "[Implant exchange] can not only help prevent complications like capsular contracture that may result from a leak or rupture, but being proactive about changing your implants can also lead to an easier upgrade procedure and faster recovery."
