Today, the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced an investment of $1.2 million to help female-owned businesses across Western Canada access new domestic and international markets.

Federal funding will support Alberta Women Entrepreneurs'' (AWE) efforts to assist emerging women entrepreneurs, including Aboriginal businesswomen, develop the leadership skills and business capacity needed to pursue market opportunities. This investment will also enable AWE to collaborate with Women''s Enterprise Centres across the West to ensure western Canadian businesswomen are provided with similar access to market programs in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

The initiative will prepare business owners across the West for international trade missions and buy/sell forums, as well as provide essential training and mentorship support to strengthen both domestic and international trade and business opportunities. Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada has also contributed $200,000 toward this project.
