Before we dive into the upgrades this winter, FUT 15 released a FAQ (Frequently asked questions) sheet that stipulates the guidelines for the upgrades.
Understanding Upgrades
Gold In-Forms
The regular card located in transfer market and in your club remains the same. The in-form (IF) card only come in new packs. However, the in-forms both on the market and in the club receive a ‘live’ boost equal to that of the upgrade.
For example, if Alexandre Lacazette gets upgraded from a 79 to an 81 the this is what will happen. His 79 card will not be changed, but will be replaced in packs with his 81 card. His 80 and 81 rated in-forms that people own will automatically be upgraded to 82 and 83 in-forms, with stats upgraded to correspond with his new overall.
Silver In-Forms
Whenever a silver player gets upgraded to a gold card, the silver IF card does not get upgraded. For example, if Harry Kane gets an upgrade from a 68 to 76 gold card, his 71 IF card remains the same.
No In-Forms
If a player has not received an IF card, but will get an upgrade, the old card located on the market or in your club remains the same. The newly upgraded card will only come in new packs. There will be a resulting drop in price of the old card and a price hike for the new card.
If you have problems controlling your spending on FIFA 15 Ultimate Team packs, then the news of 134 upgraded ‘Winter Upgrade’ players may be concerning. EA has tinkered around with a bunch of players, giving a whole load of them new, improved cards.
Coincidentally, that means (in most circumstances) you need to re-collect those players if you want their improved versions. EA has put together an FAQ, and a list, of the various updated cards.
Non-IF (in-form) players at your club don’t get any upgrade. You’ll need to find/buy/whatever the updated version of their cards. If the new overall rating for a player puts his score equal or above his current IF card, the IF card will get a bump. If it doesn’t, the IF card will stay the same. According to the FAQ, “If you already own the in-form version of an upgraded player in your Club, your IF will be upgraded.”
Things are a bit more complicated for players, such as Harry Kane, who now have a gold card (where previously they only had silvers.) Where players have been upgraded across “quality tiers,” EA say “his lower-quality IF will not be upgraded.” Kane, therefore, still has a pair of silver IF cards that won’t be upgraded.
If you’re still confused (and I don’t really blame you,) stare at the FAQ a bit longer until it starts making sense.

EA Sports released the Team of the Week on Wednesday, then they released the Team of the Tournament for the Africa Cup on Friday, no one expected any upgrades until next week but they threw us a curve and released over 100 upgrades to players today. Some surprise exceptions were made, but overall it''s the biggest release of upgrades in Ultimate Team History!
In total there were 134 upgrades, with the highest upgrade being Neymar going from an 86 to an 87 meaning his highest inform is now an 89. Other high rated upgrades were Aguero, Gotze, Boateng, Costa, Alexis Sanchez, Xabi Alonso, De Gea, Fabregas, Isco, De Bruyne, Pogba, Vela, Lucas, Zabaleta, Buffon, Hart, and Griezmann.
Other notable upgrades were Lacazette going up to an 82, Coleman, Carvajal, Memphis Depay, Victor Ibarbo, Harry Kane going up 9 and now becoming a gold, Gabriel going up 5 and becoming gold, and Luciano Vietto going up 2 also becoming a gold now.
If there was a time to buy packs, now would be the time, this is when prices are at an all time high for the upgrades, but the informs that got upgraded can still be bought since there prices are still down due to the Team of the Tournament being released as well. Hold on to those Cabella''s and Menez''s because they''ll eventually go back up.
