Volkswagen Canada Showcases New Golf R at Toronto Autoshow
Newest Member of Award-Winning Golf Family is also the Fastest

Last year, the all-new 7th generation was introduced in Canada and the motoring press quickly took notice, showering the car with praise and accolades. Next up, the 220 hp built upon the virtues of the Golf and squared the performance, making it one of the best all-around vehicles available in the country.
Today in Toronto, took the wraps off the ultimate Golf, the all-new 2016 Golf R.
The Golf R gets things started with 292 turbocharged horsepower. Power is routed through a 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system and standard 19" alloy wheels. A choice of six-speed manual or DSG automatic transmission will suit any driver''s style, and electronic Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) keeps the Golf R firmly planted on any road under all conditions.
Outside, the look is subtly aggressive; from the Bi-Xenon front headlights to the quad exhaust system. A functional bodykit reduces aerodynamic resistance, while differentiating this Golf from all the others.
Once inside, driver and passenger alike will be comforted by a leather-trimmed interior featuring R-specific colour-coding and unique elements including a full size touchscreen for control of navigation and infotainment. Integrated "Carplay" and "Android Auto" ensure seamless connectivity and functionality with the latest smartphones.
The previous generation Golf R was an immediate sellout when it came to Canada. With the significant improvements made to the latest version, it is hard to imagine demand being any lower when the car arrives this summer.
Volkswagen dealers are now taking orders for the new Golf R, with a starting price of just $39,995.
