Harper Government Support for CNC Operator Training Program Will Result in Job Opportunities for Aboriginal Students

Today, the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $935,000 to support the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development (CAHRD) to provide Computer Numerical Control (CNC) skills training for Aboriginal students.
This investment, through the Western Diversification Program, will make it possible for CAHRD to purchase the equipment necessary to deliver "state-of-the art" CNC Operator training designed to meet an emerging labour market shortage specific to the manufacturing and aerospace sectors. CAHRD is collaborating with industry to develop and deliver the training allowing graduates to immediately enter the workforce.
Located in Neeginan College of Applied Technology, the training arm of CAHRD, the program is the first direct, comprehensive CNC Operator training program in Manitoba. CAHRD is collaborating with Monarch Industries to integrate production of manufactured parts as a component of the training and to host students for their work experience.
