Today, at the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT), Dan Albas, Member of Parliament for Okanagan-Coquihalla, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced over $1.75 million in funding to support training for skilled trades.
This investment, provided through the Western Diversification Program, will be used by NVIT to purchase a mobile trailer used to deliver the Bridging to Trades program in Aboriginal communities across B.C., and to purchase related equipment and software used to equip the trailer and the school''s Merritt campus.
With continued growth expected in skilled trades across western Canada, there is high-demand for trades training programs. As a result of this investment, NVIT will be able to train an additional 70 to 80 students annually, and expand program delivery to an additional three to four Aboriginal communities.
