Minister Blaney to Attend International Meeting on Terrorism in Paris
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 01/09/15 -- Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada''s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, announced he would attend an international meeting, Sunday, January 11, on the issue of terrorism as convened by his counterpart, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve. This visit follows this week''s barbaric murders of French journalists and police officers, as well as the shooting and death of hostages at a kosher market in France.
"We are saddened and horrified by the tragic events in France, and our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and their families and all French people during this difficult time. We stand with France following these barbaric acts. We have witnessed a grim reminder that no country is immune to the types of attacks we have seen elsewhere around the world.
On Sunday I will meet with my counterparts in Paris to discuss important issues relating to our common fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
Canada and its allies will not be intimidated and will continue to stand firmly together against terrorists who would threaten the peace, freedom and democracy our countries so dearly value. We continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in close contact with French officials."
