Finding Scab: Online community rallies together to retrieve a precious lab pigeon

For Prof. Dr. Louis P. Pegon, an independent researcher working in his small private laboratory, the disappearance of his lab pigeon Scab is a harrowing disaster.

(firmenpresse) - For a big research facility with dozens, if not hundreds of lab animals, the loss of one specimen might not pose a problem – however, for Prof. Dr. Louis P. Pegon, an independent researcher working in his small private laboratory, the disappearance of his lab pigeon Scab is a harrowing disaster: Throughout years of tireless labor he has worked to prove that his life-long dream, the creation of a pigeon with phosphorescent plumage, is attainable. However, just when he was about to present the living proof of his success to the public, Scab, the descendant of a long line of lab pigeons, and the first one to show a clear glow-in-the-dark effect in his tail feathers, has disappeared.
Prof. Pegon has launched a social media campaign to retrieve the fugitive bird and is overwhelmed by the response of the online community: „I value each and every lead – even if the suspect birds have all turned out to be common feral pigeons so far, it shows me that people value and support my groundbreaking research!“
He also makes it clear that it is not only in the interest of science that he seeks to retrieve his precious pigeon: „To me, Scab is more than a mere anonymous lab animal! To me, he is like a cherished co-worker and a member of family. We work together, we travel together... I miss him and worry about him being all alone out there in the wild!“
Prof. Pegon is determined to retrieve his precious pigeon and resume his experiments. New volunteers wanting to join his search are asked to visit his Facebook page, where he has provided a detailed description of the missing bird as well as all necessary contact information.
