My Giving Moment is a national multimedia campaign that encourages Canadians to give back to their communities, neighbours, charities and causes. Governor General Packing Food Hampers
Joined by His Worship Jim Watson, Mayor of Ottawa, and by city councillors, His Excellency will help volunteers pack food hampers at the Caring and Sharing Exchange''s annual Corporate Hamper Packing Day. The Governor General will also have the opportunity to engage with staff and volunteers before delivering brief remarks.
The Caring and Sharing Exchange is a local registered charity with a mission to provide neighbours with relief and dignity during difficult times of the year, in the most fair and efficient way possible. Since 1915, the Christmas Exchange Program (part of the Caring and Sharing Exchange) has provided assistance in the form of a food hamper or redeemable gift voucher to thousands of Ottawa families in need. Her Excellency to Meet with Residents of the Special Care Unit for Men at the Salvation Army Booth Centre
Her Excellency will meet with individuals who seek the assistance of Ottawa Inner City Health (OICH), in partnership with the Salvation Army. She will also present gifts and serve meals during the Christmas lunch. She will be joined by Wendy Muckle, Executive Director of OICH, and Marc Provost, Executive Director of the Salvation Army Ottawa Booth Centre.
OICH aims to improve the health and access to health care for people who are chronically homeless. Their main function is to coordinate and integrate health care services so that homeless individuals can receive the same quality of health care as other Canadians. Through a partnership with the Salvation Army Ottawa Booth Centre, they operate the Special Care Unit for Men. For more information, visit .
