Premier''s statement on Washington''s initiative to address climate change
VICTORIA - Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement in response to proposals announced by Washington State to address climate change:
"I would like to congratulate Washington Governor Jay Inslee for his bold, progressive proposals to tackle climate change, including putting a price on carbon.
"In working with Gov. Inslee, along with the governors of Oregon and California, through British Columbia''s membership in the Pacific Coast Collaborative, I''ve seen first-hand the passion and leadership that he brings to the climate file.
"As we saw recently at the United Nations climate negotiations in Lima, Peru, subnational jurisdictions like Washington and British Columbia are being recognized as true global climate leaders.
"Our broad-based, revenue-neutral carbon tax has been a cornerstone of the Province''s climate plan. Our experience is proof that putting a price on carbon is effective in reducing fossil fuel consumption and carbon pollution - even as both the population and economy grow.
"I look forward to comparing notes as Gov. Inslee''s proposals work their way through the legislative process."
