Infrastructure Projects in Manitoba''s North Central and South Central Regions to Receive Joint Government Funding
Portage La Prairie, Treherne, Pembina Valley and Plum Coulee to benefit from New Building Canada Plan's Small Communities Fund
(firmenpresse) - PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MANITOBA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/12/14 -- Today, the governments of Canada and Manitoba announced that four north central and south central Manitoba communities will benefit from the New Building Canada Plan''s Small Communities Fund.
The Small Communities Fund is part of the $10-billion Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component of the New Building Canada Fund. It will provide $1 billion to municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs.
The following two projects in the north central region will benefit from this funding:

These projects will help these small north central and south central Manitoba communities improve their water and wastewater infrastructure. When completed, the systems will better meet the needs of their residents today and into the future.
The four projects being announced today are among a number of projects announced recently across the province that will benefit from funding from the governments of Canada and Manitoba under the Small Communities Fund. Including the previously announced projects in the Interlake Region, East St. Paul and the southwest region, the governments of Canada and Manitoba have jointly invested more than $10.4 million in funding each into 12 projects under this fund to date.

Backgrounder
The governments of Canada and Manitoba are announcing funding for the following four projects in the north central and south central regions of Manitoba under the New Building Canada Plan''s Small Communities Fund.
Drinking Water Infrastructure
Treherne Waterline Renewal - Phase 1 and 2: Critical areas
This project will replace aging waterlines in the Town of Treherne and install close to 1500 meters of new waterlines and 50 connections identified in critical areas of the town that are prone to frequent breaks and low pressure.
The total eligible cost of this project is $1.3 million, with the governments of Canada and Manitoba each contributing $433,333 and the Town of Treherne contributing $433,334.
Stephenfield Regional Water Treatment Plant Upgrades
The Pembina Valley Water Co-op will upgrade its Stephenfield Regional water treatment plant, which includes constructing a new building and reservoir, obtaining and installing new micro filtration equipment, and assorted site and engineering work.
The total eligible cost of this project is $3 million with each level of government contributing $1 million.
Wastewater Infrastructure
Oakville Lagoon Expansion
The Rural Municipality of Portage La Prairie will construct an additional secondary storage cell to the existing Oakville Lagoon to expand the facility''s capacity.
The total eligible cost of this project is $817,299, with each level of government contributing $272,433.
Plum Coulee Sewer Relining
The Town of Plum Coulee will reline more than a thousand meters of sewer lines.
The total eligible cost of this project is $313,000, with the governments of Canada and Manitoba each contributing $104,333 and the Town of Plum Coulee contributing $104,334.
