The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and Victory Motorcycles March and Ride in Support of Veterans Day in America''s Parade in New York City
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 11/12/14 -- Victory Motorcycles, a long-time supporter of U.S. military personnel and their families, joined forces with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) yesterday to form a significant armada marching and riding in America''s Parade, the largest Veteran''s Day event in the nation. The Victory/IAVA contingent included more than 700 marchers, a dozen Victory motorcycle riders, a 5-ton military truck, and ex-Marine and celebrity actor R. Lee "The Gunny" Ermey. The nationally televised parade was watched by more than half a million spectators on the streets.
The Parade theme for 2014 is "Land of the Free/Home of the Brave" in honor of the 200th anniversary of the "Star Spangled Banner", which was written in 1814. This year''s featured service branch is the U.S. Marine Corps, but the parade honors all eras and branches of service. Yesterday''s parade also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The Parade was preceded by a wreath laying opening ceremony that began at 10 a.m. at the Eternal Light Monument in Madison Square Park. The ceremony, which featured remarks by the Mayor of New York, concluded with the wreath laying at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Founded in 2004 by an Iraq veteran, IAVA is the first and largest organization for the more than 2.8 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. IAVA strives to build an empowered generation of veterans who provide sustainable leadership for our country and their local communities. Victory Motorcycles and IAVA have partnered to create "The Road Home" program through which Victory will contribute $500 to IAVA for each new Victory bike sold.
