December 6-7 Codefest/Conference to Award $10K to Best App Built for the CAN-Gateway ECU
(firmenpresse) - MENLO PARK, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/11/14 -- What do app developers, members of the maker, sharing economy, and gaming communities have in common with the future of vehicles? They will all gather for the , a weekend-long codefest and conference taking place December 6-7 at the San Mateo County Event Center, which will feature competition, cars, and collaboration, all under the theme of "exploring the future of the driving experience."
The event will be centered on a codefest, running 24 hours, from Saturday to Sunday morning, in which developers will build mobile or web applications for the CAN-Gateway ECU. This unit allows users to read data -- including GPS location, fuel consumption, engine speed, odometer settings and more -- from a number of the sensors built into the car. Six Scion FR-S cars will be available for developers to test their apps with professional drivers, who will take the cars through courses set up at the venue. Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the Scion FR-S, will be on hand to speak with event participants about the technology.
The developer with the overall winning app will receive a grand prize of $10,000 cash. Three additional prizes for the best apps built under the themes of "Safe," "Fun" and "Green" also will be awarded.
A technology fair and business conference will open and close the event, and are designed to bring together technologists, individuals and companies interested in further exploring the intersection of car technologies and the car driving experience. The technology fair, running from 9:00 am-6:00 pm on Saturday, December 6, and from 9:00 am-1:00 pm on Sunday, December 7, will provide opportunities for sponsors to demonstrate their technologies and products to attendees. The business conference on Sunday from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm, will include demonstrations and presentation of awards to the codefest winners and presentations from Toyota executives and others.
The Onramp Challenge began on July 28 with a Track Day at Laguna Seca, which drew more than 120 attendees, including developers from companies, independent programmers, Scion FR-S club members, and gaming enthusiasts. Participants were invited to record the driving data taken by the CAN-Gateway ECU during their time on the raceway. They could then replay their drive and even race against themselves on Sony PlayStations with Gran Turismo®6 from Polyphony Digital, Inc.
The Onramp Challenge looks to engage people interested in exploring the intersection of new technology and the driving experience. Emerging technologies and social trends will impact the driving experience now and in the future. The Challenge''s goals are to explore those impacts, help technologists experience the pure joy of driving, and to show car enthusiasts the possibilities of new driving experiences.
