Minister Blaney Discusses Counter-Terrorism With International Counterparts at G-6
Government of Canada working with allies to counter the threat of terrorism
(firmenpresse) - PARIS, FRANCE -- (Marketwired) -- 11/06/14 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada''s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued a statement following his meeting with G-6 counterparts in Paris.
"Terrorism is a global concern, and Canada is committed to doing its part to counter this threat with all of the resources at our disposal. Depraved terrorist organizations like ISIL will not deter us from celebrating the values respected by Canadians and our allies. Instead, they have rallied the international community to work together to address this threat to our collective security.
I took the opportunity during the meeting to put forward Canada''s perspective on the evolving threat of global terrorism, particularly terrorist travel and radicalization. Canada has taken a number of measures to address the threat of terrorism, but it is not something we can do alone. Terrorism arrests, prosecutions, and convictions in Canada have shown that our national security agencies work effectively with domestic and international partners, and that our Counter-terrorism Strategy is working.
I will also have the opportunity to meet bilaterally with Bernard Cazeneuve, France''s Minister of the Interior, to discuss this increasingly complex and global threat and how we can work together to address our shared concerns. Our Government remains unwavering in our commitment to the safety and security of all Canadians. We will continue to take all necessary action to counter the terrorist threat against Canada and our allies, our citizens and our interests around the world."
