Autobiographical Military Novel Sure To Stir Up Controversy

ID: 1314471

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/31/14 -- New autobiographical novel Afghan Dust opens up the world of modern warfare and exposes it''s no different than any other bureaucracy. It''s self-serving, greedy, and operates according to rules only making sense to those engulfed by its own idiocy. Author Drew Clementino ignored possible legal consequences and wrote Afghan Dust to tell the story he needed to tell.

Afghan Dust is about a man trying to keep his sanity and save his soul amid the insanity and soullessness of war; about how the suffering of war is downplayed through bureaucratic isolation, technological separation, racism and ignorance. After serving in two tours in Kandahar, Afghanistan with Canada''s Special Operations Task Force, writing the story of Afghan Dust was what kept Clementino sane.

"I started writing Afghan Dust pretty much as soon as I arrived in Kandahar during my first tour of Afghanistan," he recalls. "I realized during my first tour that we were the enemy. My greatest victories during my time in Afghanistan involved stopping my own people from harming innocent lives."

Clementino felt a strong urgency to have the novel completed before Remembrance Day due to how it glorifies war and those who have fought. "The idea of glory encourages more people to enlist and fight in wars believing they are taking part in a tradition. The idea that there is glory in conflict only serves to deceive others into enlisting and, in turn, cause more pain and suffering. It had a lot to do with why I first enlisted."
