Media Advisory: Free Public Lectures Featuring Jay Ingram
(firmenpresse) - EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/24/14 -- The Alberta Prion Research Institute is partnering with Lakeland College and Medicine Hat College to host free public lectures featuring Jay Ingram, former host of Daily Planet and Quirks and Quarks. Lectures will be held in Lloydminster, Pincher Creek and Brooks. Mr. Ingram will be joined by Stefanie Czub, Adjunct Professor, University of Calgary, and Research Manager, Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Valerie Sim, Assistant Professor, University of Alberta.
Mr. Ingram will give a 45-minute presentation on prion diseases and the 2003 bovine spongiform encephalopathy crisis that had devastating impacts on Alberta''s economy. He will also give insight into how Alberta has become a global leader in prion research. "The Alberta Prion Research Institute is one of the world leaders in funding research on prions, the peculiar agents that are responsible for mad cow disease, have triggered the spread of chronic wasting disease and might provide clues to better treatments for Alzheimer''s and Parkinson''s disease. There is still much that we don''t know about prions, and Albertans should be proud that we are leading the way."
