Calgary Folk Music Festival Wins the 2014 A Greener Festival Award
(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/17/14 -- The Calgary Folk Music Festival is pleased to announce that we have won a Commended award from A Greener Festival Awards for holding a well-managed, environmentally aware festival. The award includes a contribution towards 50 trees to be planted in Festival Wood in partnership with Trees for Life in the Scottish Highlands.
A Greener Award Festival recipient has to sign up to a strict checklist of environmental good practices - and is inspected by environmental auditors. Each Festival is invited to provide supporting evidence such as environmental policies, waste management plans, and the final awards are decided by the A Greener Festival Award''s Executive Committee.
The Calgary Folk Music Festival has been bottle water free since 2012. Through a combination of initiatives (plate recycling program, recycling stations and compost collection) CFMF was able to divert 86% of waste produced during festival to reuse, recycling and composting facilities. All vendors must use compostable materials or our plates to distribute food and beverage. This year we partnered with Terracycle to recycle cigarette butts and gave away a limited amount of trees through a partnership with the Carbon Farmer.
