Media Advisory: Governor General to Mark the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/14/14 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will deliver remarks on the importance of remembrance and the strong friendship between Canada and the Netherlands as part of the From Memory to Remembrance lecture series at the Canadian War Museum, on October 16, 2014, at 10 a.m.
On this occasion, His Excellency Cees Kole, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, will present a commemorative lapel pin to the Governor General to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands during the Second World War.
About the From Memory to Remembrance Lecture Series
Organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Canadian War Museum, the lecture series pays tribute to all Canadian soldiers involved in the liberation of the Netherlands. Together with other allied forces, they fought bravely and many made the ultimate sacrifice.
This seminar is the first in a series of three in which Canadian and Dutch historians take us back to key moments in the Canadian military campaign that led to the capitulation of the German army in Wageningen, the Netherlands, on May 5, 1945. The second seminar will take place in Calgary, on February 26, 2015, and the third will be held in Fredericton, on April 2, 2015.
