Cimarron Valley Railroad Honored
(firmenpresse) - SATANTA, KS -- (Marketwired) -- 10/08/14 -- Five years ago, through a partnership with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), six Kansas counties served by the railroad and the owners of the Cimarron Valley Railroad (CVR), the railroad was awarded a grant to replace some of the ties and rail in Kansas.
The Federal and Kansas Department of Health and Environment agencies expressed their concerns about the disposal of the old ties because of creosote and other pollutants that might still be in the ties. CVR worked in conjunction with the Department of Health and Environment to satisfactorily disposal of the ties which had accumulated through the years prior to Cimarron Valley Railroad''s ownership. Over 183,000 scrap ties have been recovered and disposed.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment had their annual meeting on August 6, 2014 in Wichita. Cimarron Valley Railroad received recognition and a plaque "for their commitment to protecting the Kansas environment and public safety by properly managing waste railroad ties." Henry Hale, manager of operations, was present to accept the award.
"The Bureau of Waste Management appreciates all the work Cimarron Valley Railroad does when dealing with waste ties throughout the state of Kansas," said Bob Medina, Kansas Department of Health and Environment. "We look forward to our continued relationship with CVR in the future."
