Media Advisory: CUPE President makes the case for decent pensions at summit

ID: 1308430

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/08/14 -- The Canadian Union of Public Employee''s National President Paul Moist will make the case for defending and strengthening workplace pensions and expanding the Canada Pension Plan at the Second National Summit on Pension Reform. He will participate as a member of the panel: "Finding solutions: Sustainability in the public sector."

There is a retirement security crisis in Canada. CUPE is fighting against employers'' widespread attempts to abandon their pension agreements or move to less secure plans. Weakening pension plans shifts the burden of funding retirement from employers to future taxpayers who will be forced to pick up the slack through social and income support programs. Expanding the CPP now is a better and more cost-effective way to ensure all Canadians can retire in dignity.

CUPE represents 628,000 public sector workers across the country.
