Catheter Connections Fails Disinfection Test on Important Fungus, Announces Ivera Medical

ID: 1307761

(firmenpresse) - SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/07/14 -- Ivera Medical announced that an independent lab has found that the dark blue IV-Pole Strips and DualCap products for male luer connectors made by Catheter Connections failed to disinfect all critical surfaces of male luer connectors when used as directed on Candida albicans, a fungus that has become a significant hospital concern. Previously, results were published from an independent lab that found these same products failed to disinfect against P. aeruginosa, a gram-negative bacterium, and prior to that, the products failed to consistently disinfect Staphylococcus aureus, a gram-positive bacterium. In this case, Catheter Connections'' products failed to reach a 4-log reduction disinfection level on seven of the twelve samples inoculated with a common fungus. The study report and related information for all of these tests can be found at .

"These tests results are alarming as Candida is one of the important focuses of a hospital''s disinfection program," said Bob Rogers, CEO of Ivera Medical. "The test data shows that over half of the samples were not disinfected, which should be a concern to anyone under the impression that these products will disinfect as advertised."

In the same test, the Curos Tips product reached a 4-log reduction on all 12 samples tested, just as it has done on the four prior tests. "Hospital-acquired infections are one of the most significant issues facing healthcare providers today, impacting patient health and economics. There are many factors that must work in unison to defeat these infections, but one key cornerstone is effective and consistent disinfection, something this data shows is clearly lacking with the Catheter Connections product," said Mr. Rogers.

Ivera Medical Corporation, a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), is focused on the design, development, manufacture, marketing and sale of products that help healthcare providers reduce facility-acquired patient infections. Curos, manufactured in Carlsbad, CA, is the first disinfecting cap to be marketed in the U.S. and has received FDA''s 510(k) market clearance.
