Training Providers Qualify to Train British Columbians for New Key LNG Trade
ITA selects nine training providers to deliver the Construction Craft Worker program in BC
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/30/14 -- The today announced the successful qualification of nine training providers to deliver the Construction Craft Worker program in BC (see full list of qualified providers below). This action is in direct response to the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry''s demand for skilled tradespeople in BC. Construction Trade Helpers and Labourers (Construction Craft Workers) are at the top of the list of in-demand LNG occupations, with an anticipated demand of up to 11,800 Construction Trade Helpers and Labourers by 2018 based on five LNG facilities.
To prepare for the growing demand, ITA accelerated the development of occupational standards for the Construction Craft Worker to ensure that post-secondary institutions could begin training British Columbians in early 2015.
"Qualifying these training providers is one of the ways that ITA is responding to industry labour demands and ensuring that British Columbians have the right skills, in the right place at the right time," says Gary Herman, CEO, ITA. "We are excited for the opportunities that the LNG sector could provide British Columbians and we are taking action to make sure that they''re the first in line for these jobs."
The Construction Craft Worker trade was recently announced as BC''s 48th trade, meaning it meets the Canadian standard of excellence for skilled trades. Construction Craft Workers work primarily outdoors and their tasks include site preparation and cleanup, setting up and removing access equipment, and working on concrete, masonry, steel, wood and precast erecting projects. They handle materials and equipment, and perform demolition, excavation and compaction activities.
