As the first equivalent of Tian Vienna, the vegetarian gourmet restaurant, awarded with one Michelin star and two toques by Gault Millau, is casting a spell on guests with exquisite creations without fish and meat from September 2014 on. Tian Munich opens in the new premises of Derag Livinghotel Am Viktualienmarkt. The cuisine only uses products and ingredients on pure biological and sustainable basis that they obtain from the partner organic gardener NaturFair and directly from local fruit merchants and greengrocers.

While the pulsating hustle takes place directly in front of Tian’s doors, a fascinating journey to the different tastes of vegetarian cuisine, finest wines or handmade chocolate creations starts by entering the gourmet temple. It is the place to be whether for casual lunch, stylish events or for a short timeout from a stressful city life.

Viennese charm meets Munich coziness

The style of the new restaurant remains true to the design of its partner restaurant in Vienna but sets a puristic-elegant course on the interior. On 75 seats guests can devote themselves to the sensual creations of aromatic herbs, finest vegetable compositions, classy spicery and the unique service. Furthermore, the idyllic inner courtyard offers a green oasis with 30 seats that invites guests to relax in the middle of Munich’s city center.

Passion combined with a powerful team

From autumn on, Chef de Cuisine Christoph Mezger will be in charge of the culinaric treat on highest standard at the Tian Munich. The chef already worked for Michelin star-awarded restaurants like the Villa Hammerschmiede in Pfinztal near Karlsruhe. Most recently he has been employed as sous-chef at Schuhbecks Südtiroler Stuben, awarded with one Michelin star and 17 points by Gault Millau. “Cooking is a combination of passion, creativity and craft for me. I want to create emotions with my work and inspire guests to feel the same way”, says the chef. Especially the vegetarian gourmet cuisine bares great potential: “I want to show that vegetables are more than a side dish. It is time to put on the seven league boots and get started.”

From Shanghai back to Munich

The new restaurant manager is Marco Stevanato. The Bavarian with Italian roots has been living in Shanghai until recently, where he managed the “Käfer by the BinJiang One”. For the Tian Munich he returned to Germany. “I am looking forward to the challenge of working with others to build a new company from the ground up and to witness its development”, says Marco Stevanato.





Delicious wine from Hollywood

Chef sommelier Alexander Adlgasser, who is also responsible for Tian Munich and Tian Winebar in Vienna, is also part of the team. Besides the Weissenseerhof hotel in Carinthia and the Tian Vienna, he is in charge of the wine selection at the Tian Munich from September 2014 on and improves his handwritten wine lists with his exquisite intuition. With his exclusive selection he already impressed stars like Bono, Bill Clinton, Bruce Willis or Woody Allen in New York, where he lived for several years.

Entrepreneur with vision

The man behind the success of the Tian group is Christian Halper. With his vision of sustainable gastronomy and hotel business focused on organic and vegetarian principles he made his dream come true with the Tian Vienna, one of the four worldwide vegetarian restaurants awarded with one Michelin star and his new restaurant in Munich opening in autumn 2014. With this gourmet hotspot in Germany he further extends the Tian group, including the Bio-Vitalhotel Weissenseerhof in Carinthia, the Tian Bistro and the organic partner garden center NaturFair and opens up a gourmet world on highest standard.

Director of both restaurants is Klaus Baumgartner. He owes his intuition for quality and finest gourmet specialties to his longtime mentor Eckart Witzigmann, who was entitled as “chef of the century” by Gault Millau. Baumgartner wants to offer Tian´s guests a fascinating, exceptional and creative cuisine “that makes people forget that they are missing meat on their plates.”
