Media Advisory: Governor General of Canada to Welcome President of the Federal Republic of Germany to Rideau Hall
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/23/14 -- Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will welcome His Excellency Joachim Gauck, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and his partner, Ms. Daniela Schadt, to Rideau Hall, on September 24, 2014, on the occasion of their State visit to Canada.
The following events will take place at Rideau Hall:
Wednesday, September 24, 2014
1:30 p.m.
Official Welcoming Ceremony
An official welcoming ceremony, with military honours, will be held at Rideau Hall. The President of the Federal Republic of Germany will conduct an inspection of a guard of honour. The Governor General and the President will then offer remarks.

Meeting Between the Governor General and President Gauck

Expanded Meeting with President Gauck and German Delegation
The Governor General and the President will continue their discussions in an expanded meeting with members of the official German delegation and business leaders to explore future collaborations between Canada and Germany.

Ceremonial Tree Planting
The President and Ms. Schadt will plant a tree on the grounds of Rideau Hall to commemorate their State visit to Canada. The tree will be a bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa), which is the national tree of Germany. It will be planted on a section of the Trans Canada Trail that runs through the grounds of Rideau Hall.

State Dinner
In honour of the President and Ms. Schadt''s visit to Canada, Their Excellencies will host a State dinner at Rideau Hall.

OPEN TO MEDIA - Photo op prior to the dinner at 6:40 p.m., in the Reception Room. Official remarks at the beginning of the State dinner, in the Ballroom.
