E-mobility - scheduled service to get underway in Berlin in 2015 Vossloh Kiepe''s role in a new research Project
(PresseBox) - As part of the government-sponsored research project "International showcase for electric mobility (Berlin-Brandenburg)", Berlin''s public transportation service, BVG, is to purchase a total of four 12-metre-long battery buses to be operated exclusively with electricity.
Alongside BVG, the Technische Universität Berlin, Bombardier and Solaris Bus & Coach, Vossloh Kiepe is also involved in this research project which aims to highlight how electric mobility can be integrated into a city''s public transport system.
For the very first time in Germany, a complete bus route will be changed over from diesel to battery operation. The batteries will be recharged without contact at the end stations. To this end, the drive system from the Düsseldorf-based electric bus specialists, Vossloh Kiepe, will be combined with the inductive charging system from Bombardier. These vehicles will be put through their paces in day-to-day operations during a test phase.
Vossloh Kiepe will provide all the electric drive and on-board power equipment for the new, emission-free battery buses. This includes the power electronics, traction motors and the Vossloh Kiepe energy management system.
The electrical energy which is generated during braking will be used to recharge the batteries. Furthermore, the thermal heat pump to be used for both air conditioning and heating is supplied by the on-board power system. Thanks to the modular design, tried and trusted components can be employed.
