The contestants were required to submit a letter explaining why they needed the treatment. Over 30 contestants participated and Dr. Donald Trunkey of Trunkey Dental in Bakersfield was faced with a very difficult decision. After much thought, he selected Chris Cowan, a San Diego native.
Trunkey Dental and BTUFF Magazine have two things in common: they love to give back to the community. They decided to have a contest titled “Fix Your Grill” as featured in the magazine inviting contestants to write stories on why he or she required the treatment, where one lucky winner would be selected. Dr. Trunkey was faced with the difficult decision of choosing a winner, ultimately going with Chris Cowan, a San Diego native and longtime tobacco chewer. In the video featured on Dr. Trunkey’s website and YouTube channel, you get to know the backstory and get to see the severity of Mr. Cowan’s oral condition where he is even given a possible cancer prognosis.
Dr. Trunkey does a notable job as seen when Mr. Cowan shows off his brand new and completely natural looking smile. This is proof that this Bakersfield dentist has a big heart and is passionate about dentistry. Dr. Trunkey places the needs of the patients first. There was also good news for even those who didn’t win. They received complimentary memberships to Trunkey Dental for dental treatment.

Dr. Donald Trunkey earned his bachelor’s degree and doctorate from Loma Linda University. Wanting to continue his education and fulfill is passion of dentistry, Dr. Trunkey took part in an eight year Advanced Dental Education course at Pankey Institute in Florida. He is also expertly trained in dental implants, orthodontics, teeth whitening and other cosmetic dental procedures.
