A warning from Adyton Systems about foul play in digital sectors in companies

(PresseBox) - The 2014 World Cup in Brazil has started and football fans all over the world are in a frenzy. In Germany, naturally fans are particularly excited about their own team's matches, but in general there's a high level of interest in nearly all the games, while the digital offerings of the public service broadcasters (showing matches, as well as pre- and post-game and background coverage via the internet, on-demand services, etc.) are more varied than ever. For this reason, Adyton Systems, solutions provider for corporate information security, is giving advance warning to companies and IT managers: an increase in video streaming may have a negative effect on network bandwidth.
The World Cup is one of the best-loved and most-viewed sporting events in the world. The flood of information about the four-week event is immense. Whereas in the pre-internet age coverage mainly took place on the radio and television, now it's websites and apps - and above all the videos available on them - that provide the information. For many football fans, it's no longer enough just to watch the match itself; the numerous World Cup reports, as well as pre- and post-game coverage, highlights, debates and press conferences on individual games are a must for many fans - during working hours, too. Relevant links are also frequently shared via social media platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, etc.). Here, it's video streaming in particular that makes life hard for IT managers.
Stefan Sebastian, product manager at Adyton Systems, explains: "Unlike voice or music streaming, video streaming uses a huge amount of bandwidth. Since the World Cup is taking place in Brazil, games don't start until 6 p.m. German time - outside of working hours for many companies, which may at first suggest there's no problem. But coverage is already underway by the early afternoon for most matches. Or else, many games don't start until late at night, which means the following day employees will take the opportunity to watch a repeat of the match or highlights on the internet. As a result, it will be vital for IT administrators to monitor the bandwidth."

This is where Adyton Systems recommends the use of a next-generation firewall, which, in addition to extensive security features, is capable of optimising bandwidth management, meaning that bandwidth-intensive applications that are crucial for the running of the business, such as voice over IP, can operate smoothly.
