Software testing powered by green electricity: Photovoltaic installation feeds imbus’ main building in Moehrendorf
Moehrendorf, 9 May 2014 – Green server IT, mini PCs, LED lamps: thanks to these new low power devices imbus has reduced its energy demand already considerably. The question remained, however: How can electricity be supplied in a more ecological and economical way? That is why the company had a photovoltaic power plant installed at its site in Moehrendorf.
(firmenpresse) - Due to being a consulting company for software quality assurance and testing, a great deal of the employees’ working days is spent in front of the PCs. Some 240 monitors, 120 computers and desk lamps are averagely in use in the main building in Moehrendorf alone.
In April a photovoltaic installation was mounted on the house. The generated electricity will presumably be enough to cover most of the power demand of the devices and the building’s infrastructure. In addition to that, the electricity can be directly used to charge electric and hybrid vehicles thanks to a fixed loading site in front of the house. In early spring an Opel Ampera was bought as the first hybrid car in the company fleet. Further ones will complement the fleet of eco-friendly vehicles bit by bit.
The photovoltaic installation covers almost the whole roof surface area. It was a conscious decision to choose modules produced in Germany. “Far East products would have provided the same quality but in that way we support domestic economy plus we save emissions as the modules needn’t be transported halfway round the world”, explains executive board member Thomas Roßner.
The roof area and the some 160 solar modules face east and west. In the way the system is installed, it fits perfectly for the daily load profile of the building. The plant is primary destined for captive use. A carefully designed placing of the modules and an intelligent shade management make sure to make optimum use of the incident sunlight. The installation was designed for a total output of 42 kWp. It is expected to produce more than 30,000 kWh per year. Employees and visitors can read the exact output on a monitor in the entrance area.
With the photovoltaic installation a further step is taken on the way to “green imbus”. The initiative aims to reduce imbus‘ ecological footprint, which has always been relatively small, to a minimum. Many minor environmental measures and a few major ones constitute “green imbus”. Some of them have already been realised, others are going to be implemented in the near future. The company endeavors to take measures which are not only environment-sparing but also economically viable in the medium run.
