Fifth status meeting of the UrbanWater consortium hosted by Orga Systems
Innovative billing mechanisms for efficient water management in Europe
(PresseBox) - 03.2014 - Orga Systems, a leading software vendor for real-time charging and billing solutions, with an international customer base in the telecommunications, utilities and automotive markets, had the honor to host the fifth status meeting of the European research project UrbanWater. The gathering took place at Orga Systems' headquarters in Paderborn, Germany, from March 10 until 11, 2014. This research project is supporting the European Commission's objective to achieve a more efficient water resource management and is therefore investigating new ICT solutions for the efficient utilization of water in dense populated urban areas. The project's objective is to develop a prototypical ICT platform for optimized water demand forecasting, delivery, metering and billing. Hence, Orga Systems is exploring and investing in new charging and billing solutions to support adaptive water pricing models and innovative customer empowerment tools.
Ensuring interoperability with energy and water management schemes
At the meeting, the participants focused on planning the tasks for the upcoming integration of different modules for efficient water management into a common prototype platform. Various ICT-based data services will be integrated into the platform, such as weather prediction and data about surface water reserves, household consumption data and water distribution data. The platform will incorporate advanced metering solutions, real-time consumption data, real-time demand forecasting, consumption analysis, a decision support system, adaptive pricing, and customer empowerment tools. Expected results and benefits of the research project are:
- Reducing water consumption peaks and decreasing overall water consumption
- Achieving cost savings in the distribution network's maintenance
- Changing customer habits and improving behavioral patterns in water use
Orga Systems' GOLD products support UrbanWater platform
Orga Systems will provide interfaces for charging and billing based on existing and emerging standards. Moreover, Orga Systems' GOLD Utility Billing is going to be integrated into the UrbanWater platform via these interfaces. The company is applying its charging and billing technology to establish an Automatic Billing System with new pricing mechanisms for water consumption. This will become an essential component to support the project's customer empowerment tools. A first validation of the prototypical platform will be performed in field tests in Scotland and Portugal and will presumably take place from autumn 2014 until spring 2015.
