(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 12/12/13 -- The Royal Canadian Legion has packaged up more than 1,700 Christmas gifts that will be delivered to Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP personnel deployed overseas in the days leading up to Christmas.

"Every year, the Legion sends a package to our Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP members who are deployed overseas during the Christmas Season," says Dominion President of The Royal Canadian Legion, Mr. Gordon Moore. "This effort shows that we and many more Canadians care about their service and their sacrifices," adds Moore.

It's a little gift but it means a lot, and it carries our tradition of assistance to Veterans that we have maintained since World War Two. At that time, the Legion was heavily involved in providing troops with morale boosting materials and educational upgrades. Other commitments to troop morale include the provision of funding for show tours to Afghanistan, military sports programs and the Nijmegen March team.

This year's package, entitled "A Taste of Home" includes:

"On behalf of the more than 320,000 men and women of the Legion, we wish all deployed troops a joyous holiday and that they return to their loved ones safe and sound," adds Moore.
