Fraser Institute to Release Annual Economic Freedom of North America Report Thursday, December 12
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 12/11/13 -- The Fraser Institute will release the Economic Freedom of North America: 2013 Annual Report on Thursday, December 12 at 6:30 a.m. (Eastern).
The report compares key indicators of economic freedom for Canadian provinces and U.S. states using data from 2011 (most recent year available). Economic freedom represents the ability of individuals and families to make their own economic decisions, free from government interference.
In 2012, Alberta ranked first in North America for economic freedom while Quebec ranked 50th and Prince Edward Island was last.
"Research shows that people living in provinces and states with high levels of economic freedom enjoy greater prosperity, more political and civil liberties, and longer life spans," said Fred McMahon, Dr. Michael A. Walker Research Chair in Economic Freedom with the Fraser Institute.
"In contrast, provinces with reduced levels of economic freedom see lower living standards for families and fewer economic opportunities."
